Confession time! I forgot my journal and my camera so this email will be kinda short and lame! haha
This
week we contacted a lot of people in very, very, very rich neighborhoods.
I now know what it is like to knock doors in the states! Rich people do
not want anything! It's crazy because in my area we have the richest of
the rich, and the poorest of the poor. There are giant mansions and on
the other side of their wall, a small little house made from logs, mud,
and tarps (these houses are called bordos and there are TONS). It
is so hard to mentally grasp such polarity. It does change how we
contact and teach people though. It's much easier to find the poorer
people to teach but harder to help them understand. It's way harder to
find the rich people to teach, but they understand the message much
easier. Part of Preach My Gospel teaches that we should teach people, not lessons. I
always thought that would be much easier than it sounds. But man it
really is easy to fall into a rut and just teach the same exact thing
over and over again. I have noticed that if you really search for
inspiration and have faith that it will come, that you can always have a
better lesson that way.
As far as lessons
this week we did teach a man named Walter Wong. His grandpa moved from
china to Belize and had 13 kids! Walter used to work for the power
company here and now sells products from the states. Oh and nope, he doesn't speak Chinese! He is really nice and we taught him about the
family and Book of Mormon. He loves the scriptures so I hope he gets to
reading it!
No Copan road trips this week! On Sunday
we had to leave church half way through to go pick up an elder that
went to the Emergency Room in Puerto Cortes, about an hour away. He had a
hernia two weeks ago and got a surgery and was having post surgery
problems. Its all sorted out now. He may or may not have caused the
problem by interfering when their investigator and neighbor who got into a
fight outside! Who knows!
There was a Hurricane
this week! Hurricane Earl I think. But fortunately for us, it really didn't hit us. It went a bit north for Belize! Hope everything turned out
okay there. The elders in Puerto Cortes had a bigger chance of having
problems as a result but they said it just rained pretty hard.
We
did have a really big storm hit us last night! I have a video and
stuff. It was really cool. The power went out about 3 or 4 times this
week due to the rain. We went to pick up the other elders after the
storm and the power was out and there was fallen billboards and TONS of
branches on the roads.
Other than some random office tasks, thats all folks!
Keep being awesome!
I
also want to invite you all to do your daily prayers, it brings so many
blessings to our lives. I never really did them until a couple months
before the mission and now I can't really imagine not doing them. I know
that our father listens to us and helps us. We just have to ask and have
faith in him. He loves us! How great is that?
Toodles!
No pics, forgot the camera!
